Press freedom


This was just brought to my attention. I'll certainly have to use it as a tool when teaching about freedom of the press/free speech, in the coming semester. Americans tend to be extraordinarily insular, and assume that everybody else in the world has less freedom than they do. That the US ranks below Hong Kong (which is supervised by China), below Mali, below Jamaica, below Macedonia is not altogether surprising, and certainly worth pondering.
