Another reason for Francophilia

France has officially commemorated the abolition of slavery (in 1848, the second time they did it). Today marked the fifth anniversary of a Senat decree calling slavery a crime against humanity. Jacques Chirac said "This first commemoration isn't the end, it's a beginning. It's the necessary affirmation of the memory of slavery shared by all French people, whatever their origin." Once more, the great European republic has known how to say the honourable thing.
