The whole furore about the cartoons depicting Mohammed has made me think of the descriptions of Christians in The Arabian Nights as worshipping the 'Holy Merde', and of the description of Byzantines in The Book of Dede Korkut as 'of foul religion'. Then, of course, there are the Christians who proclaim that Allah is the name of a demon....
Without religions that claim universal truth, I'm convinced, the world would be a better place.
