darker than any sort of normal night
there is no place where we can see the stars
nor even fireflies blinking in our jars
what's seen requires another sort of sight
the world is kept from us by steely bars
darker than any sort of normal night
birds pause and hesitate in urgent flight
the worst of men are hiding out in bars
others are fleeing in a million cars
darker than any sort of normal night
