the fire returns and feeds on its own embers
reburning all that's burned redestroying all
that was already destroyed remarkable
that anyone is there to see the miracle
we know that ferns grow on burned land that's a given
that's why we call them fierin and curse their existence
that feed nothing but themselves that mark
the end to pasture the beginning to the toil
of clearing them out and replanting the grass
but this time this dreamtime moment the grass
revived under the ashes awoke and fought its way into the sun
green and rich a phoenix plant proclaiming
its duty to sustain the keepers of the land
