Digby has an excellent piece on the continuing science war. The idea that science, that is to say systematic knowledge of the world as it is, is no more than a 'belief system', and thus equivalent to Christianity, Islam, or belief in the arrival of the ascended masters from planet Looflirpa, both devalues the concrete knowledge that science can provide and succours those who wish to assert the supremacy of a belief system based on texts written by people who believed that having a girl made a mother more unclean than having a boy.
