The Thames whale, a northern bottlenose, is being rescued. The last report had it near Battersea Bridge. I find it wonderful and worrying that a whale would swim up the Thames. When I was a boy there was no life in the Thames -- it was a giant polluted sewer; but now it has been cleaned up. The whale has been a source of amazement to Londoners, who have flocked to see it.
