Once more unto the breach

On the right is a bust of Dolores Ibárurri Gómez, the only person to have served in both the Cortes of the Second Spanish Republic and the first Cortes of post-Franquist Spain.

She's an intriguing figure. In the 30s she was a die-hard Stalinist. In the 70s, because of her seniority (she was the only member of Juan Carlos's first Cortes to have been elected to the Cortes in the Republic), she became the first president of the first democratic Cortes in the post Civil War period.
